The University of Innsbruck looks back on a history of more than 350 years and offers a very broad range of studies as well as successful research in many forward-looking subject areas. The University of Innsbruck was founded in 1669 and today, with 28,000 students and over 5,000 employees, is the largest and most important research and educational institution in western Austria. Located in the heart of the Alps, the University of Innsbruck offers the best conditions for successful research and teaching. International rankings confirm the leading role of the University of Innsbruck in basic research. In this successful environment, the 16 faculties offer a wide range of studies across all subject areas. The University has formed numerous partnerships with educational and research institutions around the world in order to promote international exchange in research and teaching. Since 2004 the University of Innsbruck is also deeply engaged in technolodgy transfer and has been awarded to be a leading institution in the Spin off Austria Initiative.
