About me
I am an Agricultural Economist and Associate Professor at the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Department of Agriculture and Animal Health, University of South Africa. My work focuses on Energy Economics in agriculture, with a particular interest in bioenergy. I am currently leading the UNISA-AgriSETA Rural Bioenergy Programme, developing pathways for small-scale farmers to participate in the bioenergy sector within the Just Energy Transition (JET) framework in South Africa. My research aims to integrate bioenergy solutions into agricultural practices to improve environmental resilience and productivity. I am passionate about advancing waste-to-energy systems, conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to measure environmental impact, exploring economic feasibility, and studying the role of government policies in energy transitions. I also focus on energy security, as well as the development of first and second-generation biofuels. To date, I have supervised 2 PhD and 9 master’s students to completion, with ongoing research centered on bioenergy solutions for rural farming communities. Bioenergy studies supervision still ongoing.
