Digital Twin Product for SMEs (Digital SME)
About
Digital Twin Product for SMEs (Digital SME)
Context
Digital twins are virtual replicas of physical assets—like machines or processes—used to simulate and optimize performance using real-time data. While digital twin technology is expanding across sectors (e.g., IoT, AI, smart cities), its adoption among SMEs remains limited due to high complexity, cost, and lack of standardization.
Objectives
The Digital SME project aims to simplify digital twin development for non-experts, especially SMEs with assembly line production. It will deliver:
-
A user-centered modeling tool
-
Pre-built visual components for data integration
-
A scalable, cloud-native execution engine
This framework will allow SMEs to create customized digital twins with minimal coding, reducing costs and supporting efficient, sustainable manufacturing.
Method
Leveraging a low-code development approach, the project will enable users to build digital twins through visual tools and drag-and-drop functionality. This minimizes programming needs and infrastructure concerns, empowering users to focus on their domain expertise rather than software development.
Innovation
Key innovations include:
-
Low-code, drag-and-drop modeling interface
-
Visual tools to define components and link real-time data
-
Cloud-native, multi-tenant digital twin execution engine
-
Minimal coding required for complex simulations
Stages
-
Develop the digital twin framework
-
Apply use cases in predictive maintenance and process optimization
-
Integrate AR-3D applications
