Construction Robotics and Innovative Building Envelope Technologies
About
We specialize in research, development and innovation of construction robotics and innovative envelope technologies. Our lab is located at EnergyVille, Belgium, and includes several facilities, such as a robotic workshop (including universal robot arms installed on a track motion platform) for prototyping innovation of automation and digital fabrication concepts. The workshop is complemented with an adjacent outdoor construction lab for on-site construction testing. Furthermore, we have access to the OpenThor Living Lab, which is a state-of-the-art infrastructure in which innovative energy solutions are developed and tested, and ensure an accelerated market entry in unique interaction with scientific institutions, companies, education, governments and local citizens. As part of OpenThor, we manage the THOREAQ testbed facility of VITO, which are twin buildings with swappable facade elements, providing state-of-the-art testing opportunities for energy solutions, indoor air quality, and advanced building technologies through systematic A/B testing. Finally, through our network with industry and policy, we enable structured stakeholder engagement and iterative prototyping.
