Looking for Consortium – HORIZON-CL5-2026-03-D3-19

R&D Team Lead at Yesilirmak Electricity Distribution

Samsun, Türkiye

About

1. Real-World Demonstration and Pilot Site Provision

YEDAŞ can provide a dedicated "Living Lab" environment within its distribution license area. By selecting a region with high solar PV penetration or integrated wind capacity, YEDAŞ will host the deployment of Grid-Forming (GFM) Inverters to validate their performance under real operational conditions, including fluctuating loads and weather-dependent generation.

2. Islanded Mode and Microgrid Stability

As a DSO, YEDAŞ will lead the validation of intentional islanding capabilities. This involves testing how GFM-equipped assets can maintain voltage and frequency stability without the main grid signal. This is crucial for ensuring "black-start" capabilities and maintaining supply to critical infrastructure (hospitals, industrial zones) during upstream outages.

3. Advanced Grid Monitoring and SCADA Integration

YEDAŞ will facilitate the integration of GFM inverter data into its existing SCADA and Distribution Management Systems (DMS). The focus will be on:

  • Real-time monitoring of synthetic inertia and short-circuit current contributions.

  • Analyzing the impact of GFM units on traditional protection relays and coordination settings.

4. DSO-TSO Coordination for System Services

YEDAŞ will contribute to the development of coordination protocols between the Distribution System Operator (DSO) and the Transmission System Operator (TSO). The goal is to demonstrate how distributed GFM assets can provide ancillary services (frequency response, voltage regulation) to the high-voltage grid, creating new flexibility market opportunities.

5. Regulatory Framework and Grid Code Optimization

Leveraging its operational expertise, YEDAŞ will provide technical recommendations for updating Grid Codes. This includes defining the minimum technical requirements for grid-forming capabilities to be integrated into future connection agreements for renewable energy developers.
