The Institut de Soudure Group is the research and development branch of the Institut de Soudure, a leading French organization specializing in welding, materials joining, and related technologies. The R&I group focuses on advancing knowledge, processes, and industrial applications across several strategic domains, leveraging cutting-edge expertise in materials science, welding technologies, additive manufacturing, and non-destructive testing (NDT).

Key Areas of Expertise:

• Advanced welding and joining processes (arc welding, laser welding, friction stir welding, brazing)

• Non-destructive testing (NDT), including digital radiography and AI-assisted inspections

• WAAM Additive manufacturing (metal and polymer-based)

• Composites and hybrid structures

• Smart monitoring and digital twins for structural health

• Hydrogen technologies (materials behavior, safety, infrastructure)

• Robotics and automation in inspection and maintenance

• Full-scale testing capabilities: 800 m² materials testing platform with mechanical, metallographic, and vibratory testing facilities at scale 1 (we were able to test a complete railway carriage)

• Data science & AI: Machine Learning for complex diagnostic analysis and predictive analytics
