Organization description
Magnetic Future develops flux pumps: contactless, highly efficient power supplies for superconducting magnets. Transformer, switches and superconducting circuit sit in the same cryogenic bath, so no copper leads cross the cold barrier. This cuts the electricity used to power the magnet by up to 99% in fusion and 8x in MRI, and makes superconducting magnets fit the mass and power budget of a spacecraft. Spin-off of Universitas Mercatorum and ENEA, founded in Bologna in 2025.
Business Project Description
Problem: power supplies for superconducting magnets (fusion, MRI, space) are power-hungry, bulky and heavy. Solution: contactless flux pumps, up to 99% less electricity; 2 patent applications. Market: $1.5B (2026), fusion first. Model: custom systems and OEM co-development, plus royalties. Traction: first paid unit delivered to the EU MEESST consortium, 8 LOIs, ~€400K grants. Team: applied-superconductivity experts (spin-off of Universitas Mercatorum and ENEA). Raising €1.3M pre-seed for R&D and team.
