About
Aegean Agricultural Research Institute (TAGEM) is a long-established public R&D institute under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye. We work on field crops, horticultural crops, and plant genetic resources to support sustainable agriculture and variety development.
Our institute hosts one of the two national genebanks in Türkiye. We collect, conserve, evaluate and store plant genetic resources for long-term use. In addition to conventional conservation methods, we also use cryopreservation for long-term conservation.
Our R&D activities include plant breeding and variety development, plant tissue culture (micropropagation, anther culture), doubled haploid production, and mutation breeding. As a well-established research organisation, we develop and register new crop varieties every year, contributing to national agriculture and food security.
Through MSCA Staff Exchanges, we aim to build international partnerships, host and send staff, and share knowledge and technical expertise in plant biotechnology and genetic resources conservation.
