Numerical Offshore Tank (TPN-USP)
About
The Numerical Offshore Tank (TPN-USP), located at the Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo (USP), is a premier computational and experimental hydrodynamic laboratory. We specialize in the design and analysis of offshore systems, ports, platforms, and vessels through a multidisciplinary approach, fostering strategic partnerships with academia and the industry.
Recognizing the high complexity of marine hydrodynamics and the industry's need for timely, reliable data, TPN-USP combines automated physical testing with advanced numerical modeling and immersive simulation. Our core facilities include:
• Advanced time-domain multi-body dynamic analysis software supported by a dedicated 3D visualization room for post-processing; • A 50-teraflop HPC cluster dedicated to running massively parallel numerical simulations;
• A 14m x 14m x 4m experimental hydrodynamic basin with active multi-directional wave generation and absorption;
• A cutting-edge Ship Maneuvering Simulation Center equipped with 7 integrated simulators, including two full-mission bridges.
