Composite Designers Ltd develops carbon-negative bricks and tiles that directly address one of the construction sector’s biggest challenges: reducing carbon footprint without disrupting existing infrastructure.

With the built environment responsible for around 40% of global CO2 emissions, there is growing pressure for deep, scalable decarbonisation that goes beyond marginal gains.

Clay based bricks and tiles are construction's 3rd most carbon emitting material.

Our product sequesters up to –1.23 kg CO2e per kilogram of material weight and is an alternative to traditional bricks and tiles.

Replacing clay bricks in a standard 4-bedroom UK home with our bricks can cut embodied CO2e emissions by 52%. Designed as a drop-in replacement, our products require no retraining, retooling, or high-temperature firing; unlocking rapid adoption in both new builds and retrofits.

We achieve compressive strengths up to 150 MPa, flexural strength similar to wood, and weighs 40% less than standard bricks.

Internal tests have shown fire-retardancy to 1,300 °C, better insulation than traditional bricks, and meets or exceeds relevant standards for water absorption and durability.

Production is easily scalable using existing brick manufacturing infrastructure.
