ProtectLiB is a technology-driven spin-off from the University of Graz, founded by the highly motivated team of Jürgen Abraham, Tobias Kopp, and Chris Pichler. ProtectLiB implements a sustainable circular economy within the European lithium-ion battery (LIB) value chain through an innovative recycling process. Lithium-ion batteries are playing an increasingly vital role. The solution involves a machine for the safe dismantling of batteries, followed by mechanical/physical separation of components and a chemical post-treatment using wastewater or acids to extract individual materials. The required energy for the process is sourced from surplus energy generated by other operations. Through this approach, ProtectLiB reduces resource consumption and enables the reuse of raw materials that have already been in circulation.
