AEROPORT CHATEAUROUX CENTRE
About
Châteauroux-Centre Airport (CHR – LFLX) is a unique industrial aviation platform strategically located in the heart of France and at the crossroads of major European logistics flows. Positioned as a high-performance alternative and complement to Paris airports, it offers a powerful combination of cargo operations, aircraft maintenance, and aviation training, alongside a growing passenger activity.
Designed for efficiency and flexibility, the airport operates 24/7 with no slot constraints, no congestion, and significantly lower operating costs than major hubs. Its central location provides direct access to 70% of Europe’s economic markets within one day by truck, supported by immediate connections to the A20 motorway and integrated rail access. This makes Châteauroux an ideal gateway for European distribution and intercontinental flows.
A leading cargo platform, Châteauroux is built to handle all types of aircraft, including wide-body and outsized cargo aircraft such as B747 and AN124, as well as all categories of goods—from general cargo and perishables to hazardous and oversized shipments. With streamlined ground handling, on-site customs and inspection services, and fast turnaround times (cargo available within approximately two hours), the airport delivers speed, reliability, and cost-efficiency for logistics operators.
The airport is also a recognized center of excellence for aircraft maintenance and end-of-life services. It offers a full range of capabilities including aircraft storage (up to 40 hectares), heavy and light maintenance, painting, cabin reconfiguration, and dismantling. Châteauroux is a pioneer in sustainable aviation, having initiated the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA), now a global benchmark for environmentally responsible aircraft recycling.
In parallel, the airport has established itself as one of Europe’s premier pilot training hubs, hosting major international airlines for “touch-and-go” operations. Its uncongested airspace, long runway (3,500 meters), favorable weather conditions, and competitive fees create optimal conditions for intensive training programs. The site also hosts the National Airport Firefighters Training Center (C2FPA), a world-class facility equipped with advanced simulation tools and internationally recognized certifications.
While primarily industrial, Châteauroux also supports passenger and business aviation activities, with infrastructure capable of handling up to 100,000 passengers annually. Current operations include seasonal charters, private aviation, and diversion support.
With its extensive infrastructure, including a long-haul runway, high-capacity parking areas, specialized cargo terminals, and full administrative services (customs, civil aviation authority, air transport police), Châteauroux delivers a true “one-stop shop” solution for aviation professionals.
Châteauroux-Centre Airport stands out as a flexible, cost-effective, and scalable platform, tailored to the evolving needs of the global air transport industry—combining operational excellence, strategic location, and a strong commitment to sustainable aviation.
