About
H2Eco Marina is project aimed at creating the first distributed and closed-loop hydrogen ecosystem for recreational boating in marinas. Designed on the results of the Sailing2Zero project, which demonstrated metal hydride (MH) hydrogen storage technology at TRL 6-7 onboard the sailing boat Nikita, H2Eco Marina will integrate hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and boat refueling into a single operational ecosystem reaching TRL 8.
The ecosystem is based on low-pressure (30 bar) hydrogen production using renewable electricity produced on-site and supplied directly to metal hydride storage systems through swapping modules or through a mobile refueling trolley. This approach eliminates the need for high-pressure compression, improving safety, reducing energy consumption, and simplifying regulatory compliance.
The project consists of three main elements: the Hydrogen Refueling Production (HRP) unit, the Hydrogen Refueling Distribution (HRD) mobile refueling trolley, and the integration of renewable energy sources, batteries, and permitting processes. H2Boat will develop the modular HRP containerized production system, while Methydor will develop the HRD trolley based on advanced metal hydride storage technology with thermal management.
The project will demonstrate a scalable, safe, and commercially replicable solution for hydrogen-powered boating supporting the transition toward zero-emission marinas.
We're looking for partners in the Mediterranea area willing to replicate the H2Eco Marina concept integrating the low pressure production/refueling system and supporting the integration of low pressure H2Fuel Cell system onboard boats (sailing boats and motor yacht)
