Urban Research Institute

The Urban Research Institute (URI) is a non-profit, independent organization based in Tirana, Albania, dedicated to advancing sustainable development, inclusive governance, and resilient urban transformation across Albania and the Western Balkans. Since its establishment in 1999, URI has provided research, policy analysis, and technical support to national and local governments, working across sectors such as urban mobility, green infrastructure, social inclusion, sustainable tourism, and energy transition.

With a multidisciplinary team and a decentralized management approach, URI delivers integrated solutions that promote spatial equity, circular economic practices, and community wellbeing. Its work supports the design of human-centered cities that balance environmental sustainability with economic opportunity and social justice.
