The Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ICS CAS) is a public research institution conducting fundamental and applied research in computer science, artificial intelligence, complex systems, data analysis and computational modelling.
Within the institute, the Department of Complex Systems develops advanced quantitative methods for the analysis and modelling of complex dynamical systems, with a strong focus on computational neuroscience and biomedical applications. Our research combines machine learning, network science, information theory, nonlinear dynamics, statistical modelling and topological data analysis.
We have extensive experience with multimodal biomedical and neuroimaging data, including EEG, fMRI and clinical datasets, and work on applications in psychiatry and neurology such as schizophrenia, epilepsy and depression. Our expertise includes functional and effective connectivity, brain network analysis, dynamical and whole-brain modelling, higher-order interactions, causal inference, AI-based biomarkers and interpretable machine learning.
ICS CAS participates in and coordinates large interdisciplinary national and international research projects, working with universities, hospitals, research institutes and technology partners.
For Horizon Europe collaborations, we are particularly interested in projects in digital and smart health, AI for biomedical data, predictive and multimodal biomarkers, computational modelling of human physiology and brain function, and advanced methods for analysing complex high-dimensional data. We can contribute as a scientific, methodological and computational partner, including method development, data analysis, modelling, validation and integration across multidisciplinary work packages.
