TWIN-INDUSTRIA - Twin-Industria: AI- and Digital Twin-Supported Green/Digital

Assistant Expert at Istanbul Chamber of Commerce

İstanbul, Türkiye

About

1. Basic Project Information

Project Title:
Twin-Indústria: AI- and Digital Twin-Supported Green/Digital Transformation and Automated Digital Product Passport (DPP) Ecosystem for Turkish Sub-Industries

Programme: Horizon Europe 2026–2027 | Cluster 4 – Digital, Industry and Space
Focus: Twin Green and Digital Transformation of Industry | Destination 1: Climate Neutral, Circular and Digitised Production
Duration: 36 months
Coordinator: Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) & the yansanayi.ito.tr Network

2. Background and Rationale

The European Green Deal, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) are increasing the need for transparent environmental data across industrial supply chains.

Türkiye is a major supplier of automotive, defence and white goods components to European markets. However, many SME-scale suppliers lack the digital infrastructure needed to monitor energy efficiency, simulate emissions and resource use, and generate reliable Digital Product Passport (DPP) data.

Twin-Indústria aims to accelerate the green and digital transformation of Turkish supplier SMEs by combining Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins, industrial data and automated DPP solutions. The project will enable participating companies to monitor and optimise production processes while improving their readiness for emerging EU sustainability and product-data requirements.

3. Strategic Leverage: Veri İstanbul

The project will build on the existing “Veri İstanbul: AI-Supported Open Data Library”, developed under ITO leadership with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA).

Veri İstanbul will provide a foundation for SME profiling, sectoral green/digital maturity assessment, regional energy-intensity analysis and data-driven modelling. Its open-data architecture will support the development and validation of Digital Twin and AI-based solutions, reducing the need to build the data infrastructure from scratch.

4. Main Objectives

Digital Twin Deployment:
Develop live Digital Twins for production lines in at least 15 pilot supplier facilities from the automotive, defence and white goods sectors.

Automated DPP Ecosystem:
Convert product life-cycle, material, energy and emissions data generated through Digital Twins into QR-enabled and interoperable Digital Product Passports, aligned with relevant ESPR requirements and emerging EU DPP architecture.

Resource and Energy Optimisation:
Use AI-supported simulations and optimisation to target, in pilot facilities:

  • 25% reduction in energy consumption

  • 20% reduction in raw-material waste

  • Integration of predictive maintenance capabilities

Scalable B2B Model:
Develop a transferable business model through the ITO Sub-Industry Exchange Platform (yansanayi.ito.tr) and facilitate replication among SMEs across Türkiye and neighbouring markets.

5. Work Packages

WP1 – Project Management and Coordination:
Administrative, financial, technical and consortium management led by ITO.

WP2 – Industrial Data Architecture:
Integration with Veri İstanbul; pilot-company selection; data collection and green/digital maturity mapping.

WP3 – AI, Digital Twin and DPP Development:
Development and integration of AI analytics, Digital Twin, industrial simulation and DPP solutions by European technology and research partners.

WP4 – Pilot Applications and Validation:
Deployment and testing of Digital Twins and DPP solutions in selected automotive, defence and white goods supplier facilities.

WP5 – LCA, CBAM and EU Sustainability Alignment:
Life Cycle Assessment, carbon-data verification and alignment with relevant EU sustainability and product-data requirements.

WP6 – Dissemination, Exploitation and Replication:
Communication and transfer through ITO, EUROCHAMBRES, the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), EDIHs and relevant European industrial networks.
