AI-Driven Hydrological Forecasting for Climate-Resilient Aquatic Ecosystems

PdD. Project Development and Management Unit Coordinator , Civil Engineering Dept. at Wageningen University & Research | WUR

Wageningen, Netherlands

About

We are seeking European research, academic, public-sector and industry partners to develop an AI-driven framework for improving the resilience and sustainability of aquatic ecosystems under climate change and increasing human pressures.

Our expertise focuses on hydrological forecasting, time-series modelling, machine learning and AI-based prediction of water-related variables. We are particularly interested in developing advanced forecasting and decision-support approaches that can integrate hydrological, climatic and environmental data to support more resilient management of aquatic systems.

The proposed collaboration could address:

  • AI and machine-learning-based hydrological forecasting;

  • climate-sensitive prediction of water levels, flows and related hydrological variables;

  • early-warning and decision-support systems for aquatic environments;

  • integration of heterogeneous environmental and climate datasets;

  • assessment of climate change impacts on aquatic systems;

  • AI-based tools supporting sustainable and resilient waterborne activities.

We are particularly interested in partners with complementary expertise in aquatic ecosystem modelling, waterborne transport, environmental monitoring, climate impact assessment, digital twins, remote sensing, sensor technologies, decision-support systems and demonstration in real-world aquatic environments.

We can contribute expertise in AI/ML-based hydrological modelling, forecasting, model optimisation, environmental data analysis and the development of predictive decision-support approaches.

We are open to joining an emerging consortium or developing a new project concept together with interested partners within the relevant Horizon Europe topic.

Potential partners: universities and research institutes, water authorities, environmental organisations, technology companies, SMEs, transport/water-sector stakeholders and organisations operating or demonstrating solutions in real aquatic environments.
