Computer Accelerate Discovery of Antivirals

Senior Lecturer at University College Cork

About

Lassa mammarenavirus continues to pose a severe public health threat on the WHO priority list for epidemic preparedness, developing targeted small-molecule therapeutics is an urgent priority directly aligned with the HORIZON-HLTH-2027-01-DISEASE-05 call.

I am currently establishing a multi-disciplinary consortium focused on Computer-Accelerated Discovery and Optimization of Novel Antivirals targeting Lassa Virus. By leading a dedicated Computational Drug Discovery Work Package based on multiscale molecular dynamics, free-energy calculations, computer-aided drug design (CADD), and Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) analysis to rationally identify, optimize, and profile candidates with intra-family and variant-transcending potential while evaluating resistance liabilities.

This computational platform will bridge target characterization and virtual screening with medicinal chemistry, structural biology, and virology, accelerating high-potential lead candidates through mechanism-of-action validation and into in vitro and in vivo preclinical pipelines.

We are actively seeking academic and industrial partners across Europe—particularly with expertise in virological testing, disease models, and translational medicine—to build a competitive proposal capable of advancing candidates toward clinical evaluation
