About
BioSense Institute is a research and development institute dedicated to the application of information technologies in biosystems. Founded by the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and operating under the University of Novi Sad, BioSense has rapidly grown into a European Centre of Excellence. The Institute’s establishment and expansion have been strongly supported by the Horizon WIDERA Teaming project ANTARES, which provided essential funding and expertise following a comprehensive business plan. This plan guided BioSense’s development from 2017 through 2024, aiming to position the Institute among Europe’s top research institutions in cutting-edge biosystem technologies.
BioSense specializes in developing advanced materials, sensor technologies, robotics, and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for biosystems. It also excels in satellite data collection, remote and in-situ sensing, and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered data analytics. Its research priorities align with global scientific trends, market needs, and regional challenges, especially in materials science, sensor development, IT, and AI applications.
The Institute’s strength lies in its multidisciplinary expertise. Teams of technical experts in materials science, microfluidics, robotics, electronics, electrochemistry, IT, and AI work in close collaboration with bioscientists specializing in entomology, agriculture, microbiology, molecular biology, ecology, aerobiology, biotechnology and food technology. This collaborative environment fosters innovative research that addresses complex biological and technological challenges but also promotes sustainability and economic growth.
BioSense has earned a strong national and European reputation as a reliable coordinator and executor of large-scale, high-impact projects, especially within the European Research Area. This reputation rests on the expertise and dedication of its PhD-level scientists, who lead excellence research and strengthen partnerships Housed in a modern facility equipped with cutting-edge laboratories, including molecular biology, prototyping, optical materials, analytical, microscopy, phenotyping, and food labs, BioSense combines state-of-the-art infrastructure with top scientific talent. This synergy enables high-precision research and innovation that addresses pressing challenges in the agri-food and bio-based sectors.
