Terramare Fjord & Gård AS

Terramare Fjord & Gård AS is a small company located in Sørfolda, Northern Norway, combining marine science, recreational fisheries and citizen engagement. Our main research initiative, ACCESS-Fjord, aims to develop a citizen-science framework for monitoring coastal fish populations through recreational fishing.

The project engages recreational anglers in collecting standardised data on fish catches, including species, length, weight, fishing location, depth and fishing effort. By integrating these observations across different locations and depth strata, ACCESS-Fjord seeks to improve knowledge of fish population structure, spatial distribution and temporal trends, contributing to more effective fisheries monitoring and sustainable coastal resource management.

Building on expertise in marine biology, fisheries ecology and quantitative stock assessment, the project explores how recreational fisheries can complement traditional scientific monitoring and provide valuable data for research in data-limited coastal ecosystems. It also aims to strengthen connections between scientists, local communities and recreational fishers, promoting public participation in marine research.

Terramare is interested in collaborating with universities, research institutes, SMEs, NGOs and public authorities on projects involving citizen science, marine biodiversity, fisheries ecology, environmental monitoring and ecosystem-based management.
