Natuurpunt
About
Natuurpunt is Flanders' leading nature conservation NGO, active in Flanders and Brussels (Belgium). Supported by around 128,000 member families, we protect, restore, manage and study nature in one of the most densely populated and fragmented regions of Europe. Natuurpunt owns and manages around 28,900 ha in some 700 nature reserves, ranging from wetlands, river valleys and heathlands to forests, grasslands and peri-urban nature, and carries out large-scale restoration with its own professional field teams.
Our bottom-up model mobilises close to 50,000 active volunteers, supported by around 600 professionals, through local chapters across the region. Through Natuurpunt Studie we run long-term monitoring schemes for species groups such as butterflies, wild bees, dragonflies and birds, and we co-manage the citizen science platform Waarnemingen.be. Natuurpunt also runs visitor centres and educational programmes, contributes to nature policy at regional, national and EU level, and has extensive experience as coordinator and partner in EU-funded projects, particularly under LIFE.
