About

The Sustainable Innovation Institute (IID-SII) is a French non-profit association established in Paris in 2019, with a team of 5 experts. It was created under the impetus of LGI Sustainable Innovation, a purpose-driven enterprise which seeks to extend a broader exchange on innovation and sustainability. With a mission to advance and share knowledge on the potential of innovation to address sustainability challenges, IID-SII targets the subjects of Nature-based Solutions, biodiversity, soil, ecosystems and circular economy.

IID-SII targets EU projects on the subjects of biodiversity restoration and conservation, nature-based solutions, soil and ecosystems. The team is also involved in other projects that take action on the main pressures on biodiversity, in particular with regard to resources/ circular economy and climate change. The biodiversity impact assessment can be applied to any other project seeking to assess its biodiversity footprint.

Our roles in EU projects

The IID-SII team specializes as lead or contributor on the following EU project workpackages and tasks:

•Communication and dissemination (incl. policy briefs)

•Stakeholder mapping, engagement and clustering ; Workshop design and facilitation

•Biodiversity impact assessment

•Socio-economic impact assessment (incl. participatory processes)

•Policy analysis (incl. gender analysis)

•Project Management/ PMO

•Exploitation & IP

EU Project references:

  • NBRACER: Accelerates the transformation toward climate resilient regions that are safe, green, clean and healthy, by working with demonstrating and replicating regions in the Atlantic area, involving and experimenting with local communities. It co-designs NbS packages for each regional landscape, upscaling these into local adaptation pathways.

  • SOILCRATES: Supports the implementation of the mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” focused on developing innovative solutions to enhance soil quality and promote sustainable soil management practices. Collaborating with leading experts, researchers, and living labs, it tackles critical challenges related to soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.

  • BIOSAFIRE: Develops a new generation of bio-based and more sustainable flame retardants for industrial applications across five sectors (incl. construction, automotive), by unlocking the potential of lignins and tannins (natural flame retardants).

  • SCIRT: Demonstrated a complete textile-to-textile recycling system for discarded clothing—or post-consumer textiles—involving stakeholders throughout the value chain and focusing on the recycling of natural fibres, synthetic fibres and fibre blends. It developed, prototyped and produced six types of apparel using recycled fibres.
