About

Located in the heart of Porto, Portugal, the Serralves Foundation is a leading cultural institution committed to promoting environmental literacy through artistic practices, nature-based education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Home to a world-class museum designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and an extraordinary 18-hectare Park, Serralves offers a unique setting where art, architecture, and the natural world exist in a dynamic and enriching dialogue. Through its diverse cultural programmes, exhibitions, educational activities, and public initiatives, we foster a deeper understanding of biodiversity, sustainability, and the social and ecological values of our environment.

Serralves is also a vibrant platform for exchange and collaboration, bringing together artists, researchers, educators, and communities to share knowledge, challenge ideas, and imagine new possibilities. Through this interdisciplinary approach, we explore the connections between culture, society, and the environment, inspiring more conscious relationships with nature and more sustainable ways of living.

Through its participation in European initiatives such as SOILSCAPE and ASCEND, Serralves extends its mission beyond cultural boundaries, contributing to innovative approaches to environmental education, ecological awareness, and sustainable urban development.

SOILSCAPE connects art, science, and society to promote soil literacy and encourage the protection of this essential natural resource. As the coordinator of the Portuguese Soils and Arts Orchestra, Serralves brings together artists, soil experts, and communities through creative and participatory activities that make soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience more accessible and meaningful to diverse audiences.

Through ASCEND (Accelerate Positive Clean Energy Districts), Serralves collaborates with European and local partners to support the transition towards climate-neutral cities. The project promotes the development of positive clean energy districts, encouraging innovative solutions that contribute to energy efficiency, sustainability, and more inclusive, resilient urban communities.

By combining cultural engagement, environmental education, and European cooperation, Serralves provides a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration among artists, researchers, educators, institutions, and communities.
