About

The Eilat-Eilot Environmental Unit, within Eilat Municipality, works to protect the environment and advance sustainable development in Israel’s southern coastal desert region. Its work connects urban and regional environmental priorities with the protection of the Gulf of Eilat’s marine ecosystems, bringing together municipal departments, research institutions, businesses, residents and educational organisations.

The Unit supports Eilat’s participation in the EU Missions on Adaptation to Climate Change and the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, contributing to the city’s ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. Areas of work include renewable energy, sustainable mobility, tourism decarbonisation, climate adaptation, water management, pollution prevention, marine conservation and environmental education.

Through European projects and international partnerships, the Unit helps translate research and innovation into practical local action. It supports pilot implementation, stakeholder engagement, citizen participation and knowledge exchange. Eilat offers a distinctive demonstration setting where desert, urban and coastal environments meet, with opportunities to test integrated solutions involving hotels, public spaces, municipal infrastructure and marine environments.

The Unit welcomes Horizon Europe partnerships as a pilot, demonstration or replication partner, particularly for projects involving nature-based solutions, biodiversity, climate resilience and place-based experimentation that connects several EU Missions.
