FarmVet - Hub for Animal Nutrition and Biosecurity

Small or Medium Enterprise (SME)

thefarmvet.com/Gharghur, Malta

About

FarmVet is a Malta-based SME working in animal nutrition, livestock health, farm management and technical advisory, with a strong focus on improving the sustainability, efficiency and resilience of livestock production.

The company works directly with livestock and poultry farmers and collaborates with veterinarians, animal nutrition specialists, agricultural professionals, universities and international industry partners. FarmVet combines practical on-farm experience with technical expertise in animal nutrition, biosecurity, feed and water management, animal health and welfare, and sustainable livestock production.

FarmVet is particularly interested in participating in European research and innovation projects where livestock farming, biodiversity, environmental sustainability and animal and human health intersect. Our areas of interest include the One Health approach, biodiversity-friendly livestock production, sustainable feed and nutrition strategies, reduction of environmental pressures from animal production, responsible use of veterinary and farm inputs, farm biosecurity, animal welfare and climate resilience.

We are also developing concepts for improved digitalisation and data-driven livestock management, including the collection and analysis of farm-level information relating to nutrition, animal performance, health, environmental conditions and farm management. We are interested in integrating digital monitoring, portable analytical technologies and practical on-farm decision-support tools into future research and demonstration activities.

FarmVet can contribute to European projects as a practical implementation and demonstration partner. Through our direct access to commercial farms and livestock professionals in Malta, we can support Living Labs, pilot and demonstration activities, farm surveys and questionnaires, field data collection, sampling, validation of innovative solutions under real farming conditions, stakeholder engagement, dissemination and communication with farmers.

The company is currently strengthening collaboration between industry, farmers, veterinarians and education. FarmVet is developing cooperation with MCAST (Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology) around farm-based activities, student involvement, data collection and practical knowledge transfer, while also working with international veterinarians and technical experts from different European countries.

As an SME operating in Malta, FarmVet can provide a valuable Mediterranean and small-island farming perspective to European consortia. Malta offers a particularly relevant environment for studying challenges such as limited land and natural resources, heat stress, water availability, intensive livestock systems, dependence on imported feed materials and the need to balance agricultural productivity with environmental protection.

For the Horizon Europe NATURE Call, FarmVet is interested in joining multidisciplinary consortia where it can contribute livestock-sector expertise, access to farms and stakeholders, on-farm testing and validation, Living Lab activities, One Health approaches, environmental and farm-level monitoring, and the practical transfer of research results into solutions that farmers can implement.

FarmVet is open to cooperation with universities, research institutes, technology providers, environmental organisations, public authorities, agricultural organisations and other SMEs seeking an industry and field-validation partner for Horizon Europe projects.
