French Biodiversity Agency (OFB)

Established by Act No. 2019-773 of 24 July 2019, the OFB was officially launched on 1 January 2020. It is a public body operating under the joint supervision of the ministries responsible for the environment and agriculture.

At the heart of efforts to preserve life in aquatic, terrestrial and marine environments, the OFB plays a vital role in fighting against biodiversity loss. To do so, the OFB has been tasked with five main missions :

1. Sharing knowledge, research and expertise about species, habitats and their uses ;

2. Environmental and wildlife health policing ;

3. Supporting the implementation of public policies ;

4. Assisting and supporting protected natural area managers ;

5. Supporting stakeholders and mobilising civil society.
