About
Mangroves look like this: they are in 120 countries, just not in Europe. They protect us, story enormous amounts of carbon, and they are full of biodiversity.
Mangrove restoration projects face high failure rates (estimated at up to 80%) primarily because of two challenges: an insufficient understanding of site hydrology and the loss of propagules to tides following planting.
We address these challenges through an integrated approach:
-
Site assessment: we use satellites to improve understanding of local hydrology and site suitability.
-
Targeted planting: Our biodegradable seed-dart technology helps anchor propagules and reduce losses caused by tidal movement (for local communities to plant by hand or drones in remote areas).
-
Long-term monitoring: LiDAR, multispectral drone imagery and satellite data are used to track survival and growth, identify failed planting areas and quantify carbon outcomes.
We apply this approach in mangrove projects across Senegal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
