Insurance and Risk Advisory Expert for Nature

GaiaSicura is a specialist insurance broker and risk advisor working solely on nature regeneration and conservation. We help de-risk and protect environmental performance, and we design insurance solutions that help attract funding to nature projects. Further to this, we use our expertise and relationships to enable system change both within insurance and beyond across financial institutions, policy, regulation, and on the ground.

We work at the intersection of nature, risk, finance, data and policy, and help translate ecological complexity and emerging research into innovative solutions that financial institutions, insurers, investors, policymakers and nature practitioners can understand and use. Our systems change work includes contributing to research, policy and industry initiatives exploring how nature can be better incorporated into risk assessment and financial decision-making.

We could contribute through:

• Nature risk, resilience and insurability: assessing physical, ecological, delivery, liability and financial risks affecting nature projects and nature-based solutions, and advising on how these can be better understood, managed and allocated.

• Insurance-market expertise and innovation: bringing a perspective into research and pilots of how new evidence, datasets, methodologies and nature-based approaches could be incorporated into insurance and risk frameworks.

• Nature finance and investment: helping identify risk and market barriers to private investment and exploring financial and risk-sharing approaches that can increase confidence in nature restoration and conservation.

• Translation of ecological science into financial decision-making: creating scalable and standardised frameworks which connect and translate ecological research and the state of nature into the evidence and risk signals needed by insurers, investors and other financial institutions

• Systems change and market development: identifying structural barriers to scaling nature-positive solutions and contributing practical perspectives on changes needed across insurance, finance, policy, regulation and market infrastructure.

• Cross-sector engagement: helping connect researchers and nature practitioners with insurers, financial institutions and wider industry stakeholders.
