About

The Air Force Institute of Technology (ITWL) is the leader of the Scientific and Research support for military aviation technology. Supervised by the Minister of National Defence, since 1953 it has been developing modern solutions that bring large savings to Poland, at the same time maintaining the highest level of the used technology. The products and services created by Polish scientists at the Institute are also recognized beyond the borders of the country, becoming the showcase of Polish engineering.

The Institute manufactures advanced unmanned aerial vehicles whose strategic subsystems are developed on its premises, which increases the safety and precision of the performed tasks. UAVs are intended for conducting observations and inspections of critical infrastructure as well as precise engaging of a target with the use of armament. The Department of Aircraft Structures is responsible for the construction of innovative manned and unmanned aircraft structures.

Institute provides the Air Defence Forces with unmanned airborne targets, which are used for training air defence troops. The highest realism of exercises is ensured by a Jet Target, which reaches the speed of 150 metres per second.

The Institute conducts Aircraft Testing both on the ground and in flight. For this purpose, various non-destructive testing techniques, monitoring and evaluation systems, endurance tests and diagnostics of tribological systems as well as hydraulic systems are applied.

The Institute hosts laboratories of the National Research Centre for Intelligent Composite Materials. This is where research is conducted on innovative materials for the aviation industry and high technology sectors.

Air Force Institute of Technology develops, modernises and conducts research and certification of aviation armament. It also has the competence to extend their operational life. It is the author of an integrated system for assessing the use of aviation armament on the training ground, and its offer includes, among others, training aircraft armament and air target imitators, self - defence system compliant with NATO standards and non-guided missile launcher. The Institute develops the technology of using new armament on-board of aircraft and helicopters used in the Armed Forces.

A comprehensive aviation safety analysis and assessment system, created at the Institute, was implemented at the Polish Armed Forces; it supports and facilitates command at all levels. The next stage of development is the TURAWA MATS system intended for multilateral support of the Air Traffic Services Management.

ITWL develops and integrates C4ISR systems, including the test environment for the NATO AGS Battle Laboratory system.

Institute works on new solutions in the field of the use of fuels, lubricants and special substances as well as the construction and operation of equipment for their distribution and storage. The works include the design of solutions in the area of power engineering, the search for new energy sources, optimization of energy processes and the study of energy consumption in friction nodes.
