My organisation

The “Research Lab of Advanced, Composite, Nano Materials & Nanotechnology”, R-Nano is situated at the School of Chemical Engineering (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). It was established in 2007; its research group has extensive experience in Designing, Production and Characterization of Advanced-, Composite- and Nano- Materials. The R-Nano team is manned by chemical, mechanical and metallurgical engineers, physicists, and chemists, specialized in materials research and innovation, as well as experienced technicians. R-Nano brings together a multidisciplinary research team, comprised of experienced staff (including faculty members, senior researchers, post doctoral researchers and PhD students), equipped with extensive facilities for materials production, process and characterization. The core expertise of the RNano research team includes: synthesis of carbon based nanamaterials, development of advanced protective coating systems, advanced composite materials, sustainble and biobased materilas and recycling of thermoplastic and thermoset polymeric materials. Advanced materials processing and characterization, 3d printing, synthesis of nano- powders through chemical methods, coating techniques, development of carbon based materials with tailored properties, social & safety implications of nanotechnology, technological assessment and sustainability studies, engineering simulation and mathematical modeling.

About me

Chemist with Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences. I have been involved in the scientific and technical implementation and project management of >25 EU and national R&D projects, writing of scientific and technical reports (HEU, H2020 & FP7 project deliverables and reports), monitoring open proposal calls and funding opportunities, proposal preparation and submission, GA preparation. Research interests cover a wide range of topics in the fields of materials sustainability (thermoplastics recycling, new SSbD materials etc.), advanced composite materials, and nanotechnology: electrochemistry of materials and crystal growth – controlled preparation and characterization of specific material microstructures and heterostructures featuring adjusted properties for technological applications; electrodeposition of functionality graded metallic coatings and alloys; development and characterization of nanomaterials, nanostructures and nanocomposites (metal based and polymer based); electrosynthesis of binary and ternary selenide and telluride compounds and evaluation of the produced configurations; characterization of materials by solid-state methods, optical and electrochemical techniques; environmental chemistry (analysis of water, wastewater, soils, sediments and compost, pollution monitoring, wastewater treatments) and technical interpretation and implementation of standards specifications, development of analysis methods and quality control. Published > 60 scientific and technical papers in peer reviewed journals and/or presented at national and international conferences.
