About

RENATRIX makes cells feel at home.

We are a Berlin-based biomaterials startup developing organ-specific decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) for 3D cell culture, organoids and tissue engineering. RENATRIX is funded by the EXIST Business Start-up Grant and hosted at Freie Universität Berlin.

Our formats include:

  • Pregel: ready-to-use, tissue-specific ECM solution that can be gelled on site or diluted for 2D coatings

  • Freeze-dried ECM: a dry, rehydratable material for long-term storage and flexible processing into hydrogels, pregels or coatings

  • Hydrogel scaffolds: pre-formed, hydrated ECM gels with defined stiffness for 3D cell culture and tissue modeling

Formats and formulations can be customized to specific applications.

Our technology builds on several years of research and peer-reviewed publications on tissue-specific ECM materials, dECM-based hydrogels, photopolymerizable ECM materials, 3D tissue models and biofabrication. It has been validated at laboratory scale, and we are now standardizing and scaling up production, with in-house quality control for every batch.

TEAM
Dr. Komali Valishetti – Co-Founder, Business Development (strategy, commercialization, partnerships)
Dr. Ahed Almalla – Co-Founder, Inventor and Technology Lead (materials chemistry, ECM biomaterials)
Dr. Ravisha Rawal – Head of R&D & Process Development (3D tissue models, process development, validation)
Dijith Ammatt Rajan – Research Intern

We are seeking collaboration with industrial and academic partners working in:

  • Disease modeling (e.g., liver, gut and pancreatic disease, fibrosis, inflammation, infection, tumor microenvironment)

  • Drug screening and toxicology

  • Organoid research

  • Tissue engineering and biofabrication

Our long-term vision is a scalable platform of tissue-specific ECM biomaterials that makes in vitro research more physiologically relevant and reproducible. We’d be glad to meet and explore how we could work together.
