Situated in Istanbul, Boğaziçi University is one of the top five research universities in Turkey. There are currently 35 undergraduate, 67 graduate and 33 PhD programs at the university.
Along with RD activities at Bogazici University (LMFP CAM, LLZO-based deep eutectic solid state electrolyte, 3D metallic scaffolds for anodeless batteries, Na-ion CAM), Dr. Ates will cover following entities on their behalf.
ASPİLSAN Energy: High volume cell manufacturing. The Kayseri Mimarsinan OSB plant — 25,000 m², serial production since 2022 — makes 18650 cylindrical Li-NMC/graphite cells at 2800 mAh / 3.65 V, roughly 220 MWh/year. Beyond cells, it's a pack integrator across radio and weapon batteries, telecom, medical, mini ESS, aviation (Li-ion and Ni-Cd), naval, rail, and robotic/autonomous systems, with three R&D centers: battery technologies and electronic systems in Kayseri, materials and electrochemical cell research in Ankara, and hydrogen/fuel cells in İstanbul. Recent moves include a $5.8M partnership with Top Material (South Korea) — a $5.2M turnkey cell line plus a $600k protocol to export ASPİLSAN-developed electrode materials, serial production targeted for 2027. Your own working file adds the cost side: 13.5M cells/year current capacity, and toward ~3Ah 18650 production.
TÜBİTAK RUTE: A public R&D institute. Its four activity pillars are R&D and high-grade engineering projects, test and evaluation services for public and private organizations in energy storage and motor development, prototype products, and consultancy. The Energy Storage Group sits inside that pouch cell production and test/evaluation and battery characterization and pack development rather than mass production.
4EVR Energy Tech: A battery materials company — specifically separators. 4EVR develops aramid nanofiber (ANF)–based nanocomposites for lithium-metal and solid-state cells, with a proprietary separator platform called ARACHNE targeting energy density, thermal stability and safety in EV and defense applications. It operates out of Boğaziçi University Technopark in Kandilli, with a team drawn largely from Michigan and Gebze PhDs.
ANKA-X Technology: Deep-tech on the back end of the battery lifecycle. Two lines: second-life ESS deployment from retired EV packs, and direct cathode/anode active-material recovery from packs unfit for reuse (urban-mining track for Li, Co, Ni, Mn). The technical differentiator is cell-level SOH assessment combining physics-based electrochemical modeling with AI, and the commercial positioning is low-cost storage for high-reliability loads like EV Charging stations and data centers and AI infrastructure.
