The Mobilise Research Group at VUB focuses on accelerating the transition to a sustainable and inclusive mobility and logistics system. While the group spans both urban mobility and freight transport, the sustainable logistics team forms a particularly strong pillar of its work. This team develops analytical and computational tools to support greener, more efficient, and more resilient freight systems. Their research covers simulation, modelling, and optimisation of multimodal and synchromodal transport, as well as emerging concepts such as the Physical Internet. Mobilise researchers design and apply decision-support instruments like MAMCA (Multi-Actor Multi-Criteria Analysis), Stakeholder-based Impact Scoring (SIS), and the External Cost Calculator to evaluate environmental, economic, and societal impacts. They also build and maintain advanced freight transport models, including SYMBIT and TRABAM, and use participatory foresight tools such as CRISPA to explore future scenarios with stakeholders. Together, these efforts help shape logistics networks that are cleaner, smarter, and better aligned with societal needs.
