DBFZ Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige GmbH
About
The Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige GmbH (DBFZ) is a German federal research institution for advancing the sustainable, efficient and integrated utilisation of biomass in material and energy systems.
Our vision is the bioeconomy: an economy and energy system that function without fossil resources. Our contribution: biomass is available only in limited quantities and must therefore be used optimally. We identify sustainable potentials, discover new fields of application, and develop innovative processes and technologies – always with a view to economic viability and environmental compatibility.
With a wide range of equipment from lab to technical scale, DBFZ findings help shape the technical realisation and validation. These are backed by techno-economic and life cycle assessment, as well as market analyses to push the system to technologic maturity. In doing this, DBFZ research is guided by the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The DBFZ is headquartered in Leipzig. As of 12/2024, the DBFZ has 271 employees covered by collective labour agreements.
