A4F - Algafuel SA incorporates the knowledge and experience of more than 20 years in the field of industrial algae biotechnologies. It is a bioengineering company, which Designs, Builds, Operates and Transfers (DBOT) algae industrial production and processing plants worldwide.

A4F proposes an innovative approach through a gradual scale-up from laboratory inoculum up to the large-scale final plant. A4F has a unique track record of installing industrial production plants, as it installed one of the largest tubular PBR and the largest cascade raceway unit in the world. In A4F´s portfolio is the production at scale of more than 30 different strains of algae, both micro- and macroalgae, ranging from freshwater to hypersaline environments, using autotrophic, mixotrophic or heterotrophic growth regimes and applying the most appropriate, and industrially proven systems such as Flat panels, tubular photo-bioreactors, conventional and cascade raceways and fermenters. Processing and post-processing technologies such as centrifugation, tangential filtration, decanting and skimming, extractors, pervaporators, spray-driers and freeze-driers have been applied by A4F at several scales, in order to reach algae-based final products.

A4F combines these capabilities with relevant international market knowledge and experience on microalgae technologies marketing and sales, as well as product development. Furthermore, A4F cooperates with clients and partners in researching and developing new, novel and innovative algae-based products and applications.
