ISTANBUL WATER AND SEWERAGE ADMINISTRATION
About
•İSKİ is a public entity with an independent budget affiliated to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
•The first water company in Istanbul, "Dersaadet Anonim Su Şirketi" (Terkos Company), was founded in 1869 with concession granted to a French company.
•The water from Terkos Lake was distributed to Beyolu, Galata, the west shore of the Golden Horn, and the Rumeli side of the Bosphorus.
•Afterwards, the Üsküdar-Kadköy Water Company was founded to supply water to the Asian Side of Istanbul.
•During the Republican period, first Terkos Company and then Üsküdar-Kadıköy Water Company was acquired by the state, so city’s water management was passed to the newly founded Istanbul Water Administration (İSİ).
•In 1981, Istanbul's water and sewerage services were integrated, and the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) was founded by Law No. 2560.
