Hydrogeological study to analyse rainwater storage potential
About
Hydrogeological tracing tests were conducted by TRAQUA in Rochefort. A fluorescent tracer was injected into the limestone aquifer of the Gerny Plateau to study the direction and speed of groundwater flow. The main goal of these tests is to improve understanding of the karst systems and design effective runoff management measures.
The aim of the project is (1) to reduce flood risks from intense rainfall and promote groundwater replenishment, and (2) to determine whether the Gerny Plateau can serve as a large system for slowing runoff. Initial results are promising, contributing to ongoing discussions about potential flood mitigation solutions for the region, which are a focus after the heavy inundations of 2021.
