About
Chitosan is a plant-safe, food-grade biopolymer made by upcycling crustacean shells. In water treatment it behaves like a smart magnet: its natural positive charge grabs onto the negatively charged particles that make water cloudy or hazardous—silt, oils, dyes, heavy metals, micro-plastics, even many bacteria and viruses—pulling them together into large, easy-to-filter flocs.
Why operators choose chitosan
BenefitWhat it means in practiceHigh-speed clarificationTurbidity, colour, and COD drop within minutes, so filters and membranes foul less often.Broad contaminant captureOne dose targets sediments, heavy metals, phosphorus, fats & greases, and microbial loads simultaneously.Lower sludge volumesFlocs are lighter and drier than alum-based sludge, cutting disposal costs by up to 50 %.Drop-in compatibilityWorks in sand filters, DAF units, sedimentation basins, UF/RO pre-treatment, and mobile clarifier trucks—no plant redesign.Sustainable profile100 % biodegradable, sourced from waste, and free of acrylamide, making it safe for drinking-water and food-plant use.
Typical use cases
-
Municipal drinking-water plants treating river or reservoir sources.
-
Industrial effluents from textiles, mining, dairies, and breweries that need to meet strict discharge limits.
-
Aquaculture & fisheries where non-toxic water conditioning is essential for stock health.
-
Storm- and construction-site runoff where quick, on-site clarification prevents sediment pollution.
Switching to chitosan lets facilities reach tighter regulatory targets, shrink their chemical footprint, and tell a compelling sustainability story—all while turning seafood waste into clean water.
