Fiberloop
About
Fiberloop enables recycling of Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) products by providing solutions and equipment, aiming to drive change in composite waste recycling. Our vision is to keep FRP plastics out of landfills and incineration, reducing CO₂ emissions and supporting the green transition. Our mission is to scale our technology to meet the growing global demand for composite recycling.
Composite materials are an integral part of modern society, found in construction materials, automobiles, boats, airplanes, and wind turbine blades. These materials are designed for durability rather than recyclability, and to date, no large-scale solution for recycling them has been successfully implemented. Currently, composite waste is either sent to landfills or incinerated, leading to significant environmental consequences. This disposal process results in millions of tons of CO2 being released into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. Meanwhile, composite production is increasing rapidly each year, causing waste volumes to grow at an alarming rate. Instead of addressing the issue, we continue to literally hiding the problem underground or release it into the air.
At Fiberloop, we are pioneering technology for recycling of composite materials such as Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic, GFRP. Our solution is based on pyrolysis, a process where the waste is heated in an oxygen-free environment. During this process, the resin, the plastic, evaporates into gas, which is later cooled and condensed into a pyrolysis oil, leaving the glass fibres to be harvested in the reactor. The recovered glass fibers and oil, can be sold as commodities and repurposed into new products.
