Geothermal Policy Lab – Gran Canaria Leading Deployment Context Informing National Governance Alignment (International Geothermal Association - IGA)

Location:Side Event Room 3Track:Geothermal Energy Forum

Convened by the International Geothermal Association, this session will examine how permitting, institutional coordination, and risk allocation operate in practice across island, regional, and national levels in Spain, with a particular focus on Gran Canaria.

Bringing together decision-makers from energy, water, mining, environmental, and financial sectors, the Geothermal Policy Lab moves beyond diagnosis to identify actionable governance improvements that can support geothermal deployment. Insights from the Canary Islands’ development experience, complemented by a comparative perspective from the Azores and the Caribbean, will help generate transferable lessons for Spain and broader European geothermal policy.
