ICOFOM strongly believes that museums should prioritise the meaningful participation of young people in conversations about their social role. The SAREC-funded project Young People Shaping the Future empowers young people to become agents of change - not only within museology but across society more broadly. It examines how museums can contribute to addressing climate change and advancing the UN’s Agenda 2030, particularly in underrepresented countries and communities. By placing young people at the heart of climate action discussions, museums can foster a deeper, wider, and more sustainable impact on interdisciplinary, heritage-focused research.
