We are a government-owned company of private law attached to the Department of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Canary Islands Regional Government, with over 30 years’ experience committed to science and technology as essential pieces in the socioeconomic transformation and sustainable development of the Canary Islands. We contribute to the business fabric competitiveness opening the way to new areas of the industrial and technological sector.
The Biotechnology Department has 30 years of experience in the algae aquaculture and biotechnology sector. Our main research line is the development and optimization of sustainable processes for algae production and processing, with a particular focus on the use of alternative water and nutrient sources (wastewater, desalination brine, flue gas) for microalgae cultivation to improve the energetic, environmental and hydric efficiency of biomass production for different biotechnological and industrial applications. Additionally, the Biotechnology department of ITC is working on the development of a Technological Area in the south-east of Gran Canaria, including a business incubator, offering services and communal infrastructures and equipment to companies in the field of algae aquaculture and biotechnology.
