About me

Dr. Nargiz Hajiyeva serves as the Head of the Organization of Scientific Activities Unit and Chair of the Women Researchers Council (WRC) at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), and the assistant professor/lecturer of International Center for Graduate Education at UNEC. 

She is the first female political scientist from Azerbaijan to be tenured as a Weiser Fellow (2024) at the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia, the Ross School of Business and Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and later as a Ludovika Scholar at the University of Public Service in Hungary. She also completed a PhD fellowship (2021–2022) under the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship at the School of Economic and Political Science, where she advanced her doctoral research. She is proficient in seven languages.

Dr. Hajiyeva is the first Azerbaijani scholar as the Co-director of the Empirical Methods Working Group of the Swiss Political Science Association (SPSA) in Switzerland.  She has authored more than 45 academic articles, books,  book chapters, op-eds, and working papers  contributing extensively to international migration, gender studies, and international affairs, illegal market activities in conflict zones, conflict economies with a focus on the post-Soviet region.
