Porcine Models for Ocular PK and Gene Therapy

About

Rodent models frequently fail to recapitulate the anatomical and physiological complexities of the human eye, leading to significant translatability gaps in ophthalmology and gene therapy programs. At ALTP, we leverage over 25 years of continuous large-animal surgical expertise to provide a specialized minipig eye platform—the anatomical gold standard for ocular pharmacokinetics and retinal biology.

Our porcine models share unique biomechanical comparability and anatomical similarities with human tissue, making them the ideal translational platform for evaluating advanced biomaterials, intravitreal dosing, and posterior-segment delivery. By moving beyond rodent proof-of-concept into high-fidelity swine validation, we help biotechs generate the regulatory-grade data required to de-risk high-value programs before clinical entry.
