University Health Network (UHN) is a public academic health sciences network based in Toronto, Canada, and fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. It integrates scientific discovery, specialized patient care and education across Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, West Park Healthcare Centre and The Michener Institute of Education at UHN.
UHN ranked first nationally by research spending in Research Infosource's 2025 list of Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals. Toronto General Hospital, part of UHN, ranked first in Canada and second worldwide in Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2026.
Research at UHN spans cardiovascular disease, cancer, transplantation, neuroscience, immunology, infectious disease, musculoskeletal health and rehabilitation. Its research institutes and clinical programs connect fundamental studies of disease mechanisms with translational research, clinical trials and improvements in health care delivery.
Areas of expertise include precision medicine and genomics; artificial intelligence, data science and digital health; advanced imaging and diagnostics; stem cell biology and regenerative medicine; immunotherapy; and medical devices and rehabilitation technologies. These strengths support collaborations across biology, medicine, engineering and computational science.
UHN's integration of research with specialist clinical care provides an environment for developing and evaluating new approaches to disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Scientists, clinicians and technology developers work across experimental models and clinical studies to investigate human disease and assess potential interventions.
Through its affiliation with the University of Toronto and partnerships with academic institutions, health care organisations and industry, UHN supports interdisciplinary research, graduate and postgraduate training, and the translation of discoveries into clinical practice. Its breadth of expertise is relevant to international collaborations in precision and personalized health, infectious disease, regenerative medicine, and digital and data-driven healthcare.
