RetroGradient Labs

RetroGradient Labs Ltd is a Malta-based AI engineering company founded by two MSc-qualified, peer-reviewed AI engineers with nearly a decade of combined experience shipping production AI systems. We design and deploy trustworthy AI infrastructure, self-hosted, GDPR-compliant, and built to last, for organisations in regulated industries across Malta and the EU.

The opportunity we identified is structural. The AI market is saturated with hype-driven consultancies, GPT wrappers, and demo-grade tools that fail in production and create serious compliance exposure. Meanwhile, most organisations do not need the most complex AI solution available. They need the right one, properly engineered. No provider in Malta was offering this honestly. We founded RetroGradient Labs to fill that gap.

Our two platform products, BEHOLDR for edge computer vision and GRIMOIR for self-hosted document intelligence via agentic RAG, address the most commonly recurring AI use cases we encounter across industries. Both are production-ready, EU AI Act ready, and owned entirely by the client on their own infrastructure. Alongside the platforms, we offer bespoke AI engineering for problems that fall outside the standard mould.
