Session Synopsis
(Log in and click Add to agenda to secure your spot. Space is limited.)
Coal and fuel transportation in Indonesia faces a critical operational constraint: the upper reach of Barito River, is navigable for only around 200 days per year due to fluctuating water levels. This limitation creates significant scheduling uncertainty and complicates the balance between fuel inbound and coal outbound logistics. In addition to water levels, other operational conditions and fluctuations in demand, fleet condition, and other related operational constraint can also affect the company’s operations.
The session examines how advanced analytics can address this through three focus areas: water level forecasting for operational and strategic decisions; end-to-end supply chain scheduling optimization; and fleet performance monitoring — speed, fuel consumption, and Fleet ETA. Beyond these three, the session may openly discuss on other relevant technologies not yet covered, such as those supporting dockyard, dredging and port terminal operations.
We will also share what has been done, current progress, and next steps — offering a brief overview and discussion related technologies along the way.
Opportunity #1: Optimize Fuel Inbound and Coal Outbond Supply Chain by Implementing Advance Analytics and Related Technologies
Priority Areas
1. Water Level Forecasting: The Barito River, a key waterway for coal and fuel transport, is navigable for only approximately 200 days per year due to seasonal water level fluctuations. An accurate, reliable water level forecast is needed to guide operational decisions and feed into the Decision Support System (DSS).
2. Optimization – Advance Analytics: Including Demand Forecasting, Fleet Scheduling end to end for coal supply chain (loading – delivery).
3. Other Related Technologies to support Fleet Performance: The application of related technologies, including speed, fuel consumption, and estimated time of arrival (ETA) monitoring, to support fleet performance management. Or Digital Twin for Supply Chain Operations.
Areas of Interest and Expertise
AL’s areas of interest and expertise cover integrated maritime transportation and logistics services, supporting the movement of coal and fuel from loading points to customers. Its key areas include:
- Coal Transportation & Transshipment – transportation of coal by tugboats and barges, as well as ship-to-ship and barge-to-barge transshipment operations.
- Fuel Transportation & Bunkering – transportation, storage, and bunkering of fuel to support mining operations.
- Port & Terminal Operations – coal and fuel handling, stockpiling, blending, storage, and terminal operations.
- Marine Services – channel maintenance and dredging, stevedoring, cargo handling, and other marine support activities.
- Shipyard & Fleet Support – vessel maintenance and shipyard services to maintain fleet availability and operational reliability.
