Bakar Labs at UC Berkeley is a leading startup incubator and innovation hub that supports science- and engineering-based startups through access to world-class research infrastructure, specialised equipment, technical expertise and the broader Berkeley and San Francisco Bay Area innovation ecosystem. Bakar Labs is powered by the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) and supports startups across life sciences, biotechnology, chemistry, advanced materials, engineering, energy and climate technologies.
Located on the UC Berkeley campus, Bakar Labs provides startups with access to laboratory and office facilities, advanced scientific instrumentation, UC Berkeley core facilities, technical guidance from subject matter experts, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, student talent and a vibrant community of founders, researchers and industry partners. Startups can also benefit from introductions to investors, corporate partners, advisors and entrepreneurship programmes across the Berkeley ecosystem.
Since opening in 2021, Bakar Labs has supported approximately 50 companies through its tenancy and Community Access programmes. These companies have collectively raised more than US$1 billion in venture funding and government contracts during their time at Bakar Labs.
