Powering German–Kosovar Green Partnerships
- Energy Transition, Green Industry & Sustainable Infrastructure
The transition towards renewable energy and decarbonization have become top priorities across Europe. For Kosovo, this transition carries significant weight, as the Country's has long relied on lignite-coal, a dependence that has brought persistent energy challenges. At the same time, Kosovo holds real potential to reshape this reality. Rich in sunshine and blessed with mountainous terrain, Kosovo makes an attractive destination for renewable energy investments.
Kosovo has set ambitious targets in its key strategic and legal frameworks, aiming to increase reliance to renewables to 35% by 2031, and reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Achieving these goals requires sustained national effort, but also very close cooperation with international partners. Germany is certainly one of those partners. It has long been a key strategic ally for Kosovo and remains among the country's largest foreign investors. Moreover, Germany's global leadership in renewable energy technology, grid modernization, and industrial innovation, makes it a natural partner for Kosovo as it moves forward on its energy transition.
Against this backdrop, this panel will explore concrete opportunities to strengthen German-Kosovar cooperation in the energy sector. The discussion will look at Kosovo's current energy landscape and ongoing reforms, and how German expertise, technology and investment can help unlock renewable potential, strengthen enabling infrastructure and support industrial competitiveness.
It will also examine how Kosovo can build on progress already made to accelerate investment, simplify processes, and make investment faster and more predictable, including through administrative burden reduction, digitalization, faster permitting, stronger central-local coordination, and regulatory clarity while supporting a just transition and an attractive environment for German investors.
