At the Research Center of the University (FZA), around 70 professors and over 230 staff members are engaged in applied research and knowledge transfer.

The center encompasses 16 research institutes, organized into four core focus areas: Energy, Mobility, Production, and Social Innovation. A key strength of the FZA lies in its interdisciplinary collaboration across faculties, bringing together expertise from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, Social and Health Sciences, and Tourism Management.

Research at Kempten is closely aligned with societal needs and incorporates advanced cross-cutting technologies such as Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The goal of applied research at Kempten is to drive progress and support sustainable growth in both business and society. Research results are regularly integrated into teaching, ensuring that academic programs remain current and relevant.
